When wiring lights, 5 main colors to remember...
YELLOW= brake light rear, HI beam front BLUE= tail light rear, LO beam front BROWN= left turn signal GREEN= right turn signal BLACK= ground

Hi my friend, got a question on this topic, Just a quick question about colours. If you bought a new tail light cluster of any make and model, that had 3 wires (in my case 6 as it has twin lights), a light green, a green and yellow, and a brown wire..... Which would you assume is Earth?
Oddest thing is happening here, all three combos work the lights and brake lights but now....................... my turn sigs won't work. They are not on the same set of wires thaat I touched when installing the new cluster.
I'm having a beer whilst I sit and scratch my head.

I would first try it with a battery, using brown as earth, ground for us colonistas, light green for tail, and green w/yellow for brake. Of course all that is a guess....LOL, but you can't say I didn't take a shot!
Aftermarket stuff can be a PIA, and seldom do any instructions come with them... T/S on Cathy's Bobber, and mine, used purple and black leads, purple being hot, black earth ground. Right side purple wired to green, left side purple wird to brown.
Her tailight used black as ground, yellow as tail(which wired to blue), and red as brake(which wired to yellow)
My tailight also used black as ground, but yellow was brake(and wired to yellow) while red was tail(and wired to blue)
After market and lighting is always an adventure. That's why I try to identify ground first with a volt/ohm meter, then, on the work bench identify which lead fire the light in it's dim(tail) and brite(brake) modes. After that, it's usually smooth sailing.

I was was all hyped up ready to try the Ohm test this morning when... I go to my tool shed to find it open and half my gear missing, including my new Ohms meter. Tut Tut Tut. So I'm off to get another kit.

Hey again buddy, just got confirmation from the seller that Green with Yellow stripe is ground/earth.
Now to figure out these rear turn sigs, I'm considering replacing the whole rear section of wiring as I found a couple of tiny tiny nicks in the sheath of the wiring. I'd usually just use a circuit tester on them and bandage them up with insulation tape but what if........
A wire has been pulled and broken inside the sheath where I can't see leaving a single strand connected, it would still register on test but would it be strong enough to carry current?

Oh yes....I've chased my tail on more than one occassion, with just such a scenario....it a reall ass kicker to diagnose too!

It was driving me mad so I did the mad thing and replaced the rear section of the loom. Seems to work now but I ride and repost to let you know if it's successful.
